Erin Ferguson, PE
Erin Ferguson pursued a career in transportation engineering to learn from and share knowledge with colleagues and clients; to influence the quality of life in communities; and to interact with community members and decision-makers to develop balanced solutions. Those opportunities are also what she enjoys most about her work.
"The collaboration piece, and the learning and teaching, lead to better project outcomes," Erin says.
Variety is a hallmark of her work. Erin serves as a project manager, mentors interns and new staff members, and is involved with research projects for the National Cooperative Highway Research Program and the Federal Highway Administration. One of her overarching contributions is in the safety arena, helping states integrate the Highway Safety Manual into projects and processes.
Erin, a California native who grew up in the Seattle area, joined KAI in 2005 after earning a bachelor's degree in civil engineering from the University of Portland. She also earned a master's degree in civil engineering, with a transportation engineering focus, from the University of Texas at Austin.
One of the common questions she fields from prospective KAI employees is why she came to KAI and what keeps her at the firm. Her answer is simple.
"It's definitely the people here who I learn from and work with that share the same values and work ethic. There's something powerful about that."
