“Emmie’s Village” — Ngarama, Rwanda

Kittelson Charitable Foundation is putting Rwandan kids through school.

We recently visited Rwanda to see first-hand how our sponsorships affected the lives of the students and their families. Two generous volunteers—Wayne & Nick of KAI—used their own money to travel to Rwanda on behalf of Kittelson Charitable Foundation and document their experiences. Along the way, they strengthened our support network for aide and witnessed a level of poverty not ordinarily even imagined in the United States or other developed nations.

In 2008, we provided the means for twenty-six Rwanda high-school-age children to go back to school; it was a fantastic achievement. However, there are thousands more that cannot afford education, that need the means to acquire education in order to escape the poverty they've grown up in, that need our help.

We hope you enjoy the photos & videos provided here, and consider contributing to the future of these children in Rwanda.

Emile in the US

Emile was chosen to be the first student we brought over to visit America – an experience that we hope will inspire Emile and those he talks to about his visit back in Rwanda. Here are two videos—the first is a montage of Emile's experiences in the US, and the second is the story of how we met Emile in Rwanda last October.

Peace reunites with her parents

Peace is one of the students we are sponsoring to attend Gabiro High School. We arrived in Rwanda to find that she had been forced to drop out of school two months earlier because of a pregnancy. Girls have a much higher drop-out rate as they move through school and pregnancy is one of the major reasons for this. At the same time, studies have shown that keeping girls in school in all African countries is highly correlated with better health and longer lives for the entire population. In Peace’s case, we wanted to see if we could help her reconcile with her family and get back into school.
