Package #1
South 6th Street Improvement Project
The Package #1 improvements have been broken into three phases. Construction for Phase 1 included the rehabilitation of pavement between Broad Street & Adams Street was completed in the fall of 2005 by LTM, Inc. The remainder of the Package #1 (Phase 2) improvements will occur during the 2006-2007 construction seasons. In addition, Phase 3 of Package #1 includes all of the right-of-way acquisition necessary to complete both construction packages (#1 and #2). Package #1 includes the following road improvements and required right-of-way acquisition.
- Acquire right-of-way associated with the entire project (all seven subprojects).
- Address the existing and future operational and safety issues along Washburn Way and South 6th Street (in the vicinity of the South 6th Street & Washburn Way intersection), while incorporating the installation of a pedestrian & bicycle signal at the OC&E Woods Line State Trail crossing on Washburn Way, as well as minor traffic signal modifications at the intersections of South 6th Street & Avalon Street and South 6th Street & Austin Street.
- Provide improvements at East Main Street & South 6th Street. Some improvements will be made on East Main Street, north of South 6th Street.
- Lengthen the eastbound right-turn lane at the South 6th Street & Washburn Way intersection.
- Rehabilitate the pavement along South 6th Street between Broad Street & Austin Street.
As stated in the March 2006 newsletter and at the March 2006 public meeting, additional aspects have been added to the design, including:
- Provide improvements south of South 6th Street along East Main Street, Owens Street, and Shasta Way.
- Rehabilitate Washburn Way between South 6th Street & Crosby Avenue.
- Construct a concrete intersection at South 6th Street & Washburn Way, which will allow the intersection to last longer with less maintenance and construction burdens to the public in the future.
- Conduct extensive utility line replacement (water and sanitary sewer) throughout the project area.
- Provide improvements to allow for on-street parking on Owens Street, north of South 6th Street.
- Provide minor traffic signal improvements at Shasta Way & Washburn Way and Shasta Way & Avalon Street.
