Downtown Circulation & Revitalization
Every city shares a common goal for its downtown: to display a genuine sense of vitality and to be a positive reflection of the community. The presence of people and their activities are the best indicators of vitality. Providing sustainable methods of accessing downtown and effective ways of circulating within the area are strategic approaches many cities are using to maintain and enliven their downtown cores. Our practice emphasizes the importance of equipping downtown areas with multiple modes of travel for access, and creating policies that balance parking, as a means of access, with goals for greater use of active transportation (walking, biking, transit, carpooling). We provide technically sound and innovative methods of prioritizing pedestrian safety, while ensuring that facilities are designed and operated to support and encourage bicycling and transit service, in concert with auto and freight movements. Our corporate practice is to locate KAI offices in downtown cores and utilize the various modes available for access and circulation.
