The 4th Edition of the Highway Capacity Manual (HCM) was published by the Transportation Research Board as HCM 2000. This new manual is available from TRB in both book and CD-ROM format.
As a companion to the new manual, HiCAP 2000ª was developed as a completely new calculation software package covering the procedures in HCM 2000. The U.S. Department of Transportation sponsored Catalina Engineering, Inc. in developing HiCAP 2000ª. On January 1, 2005, Catalina Engineering, Inc. merged with Kittelson & Associates, Inc.
HiCAP 2000ª is one of a number of commercially available software packages that are intended to reflect the calculation methods found in HCM 2000. None of these packages is officially endorsed by the Transportation Research Board or by the U.S. Department of Transportation. It is the responsibility of the user to assess the accuracy and reasonableness of the specific software acquired to perform capacity and level of service analyses.
HiCAP2000ª allowed for analyses in both Metric and US Customary units, provided worksheet style outputs similar to HCM 2000, and could be operated on both the Windows and Macintosh platforms.
