Joel Amarillas joined Kittelson’s Tucson, Arizona office with a passion for transportation and a desire to “give back” to the profession in meaningful ways. True to his word, he became actively involved in not one, but two transportation-focused professional organizations – the Southern Arizona Institute of Transportation Engineers (SAITE) and the American Society for Civil Engineers (ASCE) Southern Arizona.
As a result of his longstanding involvement with ASCE, he has been appointed as the Vice President for the ASCE Southern Arizona Branch Younger Member Forum for 2017-18. He will be responsible for organizing the general membership meetings, socials and events. He is also responsible of coordinating the PE Exam Review Course and will serve as Course Chairperson. Those responsibilities include attending conferences, helping students prepare for their annual conference and scheduling Resume Workshops for young, aspiring professionals.
Taking his commitment one step further, he has recently been appointed as the ITE Secretary/Treasurer for his local chapter for 2017-18. He will be responsible for reminding members of the monthly meetings and RSVPs. He will also coordinate meetings, reserve each venue and ensure food is available for participants. He will be responsible for making payments, collecting member fees at the monthly meetings, and taking notes at each of the monthly meetings.
Congratulations to Joel on being appointed to these two posts and his continued, outward focused efforts to give back to others, as well as the profession.
