Patrick has a broad background in transportation engineering, planning, research, and design with an emphasis on signal systems, intelligent transportation systems, and traffic operations. He has developed and implemented coordinated signal timing plans throughout the west coast. Patrick has analyzed and designed preemption operations at signalized rail crossings for both light rail and heavy rail. He has been involved in signals systems research, including evaluations of flashing yellow arrows and red clearance extensions. He is an expert in the use of hardware/software-in-the-loop microsimulation to accurately evaluate and visualize complex signal systems. Further, Patrick has experience in managing diverse teams of professionals to solve complicated technical problems and communicate solutions to communities and decision makers. Patrick is an active member of the Oregon Institute of Transportation Engineering and is currently the chapter’s vice president.
