2003 ACEC Oregon Engineering Excellence Award

NCHRP Protected Permissive Left Turn Signal Display

Kittelson and Associates, Inc. was recognized with an Honor Award by ACEC Oregon for its work on the NCHRP Protected Permissive Left Turn Signal Display. Kittelson & Associates, Inc. provided the leadership for a team of transportation engineers and researchers in the performance of this study. This research project was originally sought by the American Association of State and Highway Transportation Officials (AASHTO), and was funded by the National Academy of Sciences through the National Cooperative Highway Research Program (NCHRP). Team members included researchers from the Texas Transportation Institute (TTI), the University of Massachusetts Amherst, and Siemens ITS. The seven-year research program began in 1995. Conclusions and recommendations were published in the form of NCHRP Report 493 in June 2003.


Environmental Excellence Award

Broward County, Florida, Long Range Transportation Plan

The Federal Highway Administration recently presented Broward County, Florida, with an Environmental Excellence Award for the transportation plan Kittelson & Associates, Inc. developed. The project emphasized the enhancement of non-automobile modes of transportation as a solution to increased traffic demand, rather than merely building new roads. The award was one of 12 awards given nationally.










2002 ACEC Oregon Grand Award

City of Portland Transit Signal Priority Project

Kittelson and Associates, Inc. was awarded a Grand Award by ACEC Oregon for its work on the Portland Transit Signal Priority Project. The project implemented transit signal priority at over 200 intersections in Portland, significantly improving the performance of the transit system without negatively impacting automobile traffic.
