Baltimore City Traffic Signal Timing Improvement

KAI developed, evaluated, and recommended signal timing changes for the City of Baltimore, Maryland. This project was the first major update to the City’s signal timing in almost two decades, and focused on developing the signal timing plans for approximately 300 intersections located in the Central Business District and along the key arterials that carry traffic in and out of the downtown area, from the suburbs. The project focused on providing safe and efficient movement of vehicles, transit, and pedestrians.

KAI utilized state-of-the-art technology to assist in the data collection efforts carried out during the development of the existing conditions analysis. An example of this technology is the use of GPS to collect travel time surveys that will aid in the assessment of the measures of effectiveness for the new signal timing plans.
