Braddock Metro Neighborhood Plan

The City of Alexandria, Virginia recently completed plans to redevelop an area of obsolete industrial and public housing sites surrounding the Braddock Metro Station and adjacent to an historic neighborhood. KAI as part of a consultant team led by Goody Clancy, of Boston, Massachusetts prepared educational information, analysis, guidelines, standards, strategies, and policies to help inform public opinion, shape redevelopment and achieve a vibrant, walkable community and increased non-auto mode share. Our work included presentations and written materials as part of an intensive community-based process. This work helped to: explain potential traffic impacts of alternative development scenarios, propose mitigating transportation demand management alternatives, propose transit- appropriate parking ratios and management techniques, provide an understanding of the role and opportunities of existing and changes in transit service, and recommend circulation and intersection improvements for bicycle, pedestrian mobility.
