Braddock Road/Pleasant Valley Road Alternatives Analysis

KAI evaluated improvements to the intersection of Braddock Road and Pleasant Valley Road in Fairfax County, Virginia.

This challenging intersection has several constraints, including 4f land, wetlands, limited right-of-way, large utilities, agricultural resource land, and rare plant and natural heritage resources. Six alternative improvement configurations were developed for an initial screening of operational performance and feasibility, with a goal of optimizing safety and operational performance with minimal impacts to the surrounding built and natural environment. Two alternatives were carried forward and refined through several additional concept designs.

Ultimately, a single-lane roundabout was identified as the preferred alternative after evaluating comparisons of intersection controls, traffic operations, safety, impacts to right-of-way, physical/built environment, and a qualitative review of alternatives across several key criteria. KAI is currently supporting Timmons Group in the development of RFP plans and public involvement/community outreach efforts.
