Concord Ramp Origin–Destination Study
The city of Concord, California, is a primary transportation hub connecting communities in Contra Costa County with San Francisco and Oakland. Commute traffic traveling south and west through Concord into Oakland and San Francisco is a top concern of Concord residents and traffic engineering staff. The city reached out to KAI for help in understanding the travel patterns of motorists using Concord’s freeway access points in order to determine the extent of freeway diversion onto local streets.
Using origin–destination information collected by StreetLight Data from GPS-based probe data, KAI analyzed travel patterns of motorists during the commute period. Our analysis allowed Concord to determine the proportion of local versus cut-through traffic using Concord’s freeway on-ramps, which will drive the city's implementation strategies to reduce cut-through traffic.
