Eastern Market Metro Park
The Eastern Market Metro Park is a public space in SE Washington D.C. that historically has not lived up to its full potential as a center of the Eastern Market community. Barracks Row Main Street, a designation of the D.C. Main Streets commercial district, commissioned a study to improve the Park and surrounding area. In collaboration with Esocoff & Associates, Kittelson & Associates, Inc. (KAI) studied the transportation conditions of the roadways immediately adjacent to the Eastern Market Metro Park. Together with Esocoff & Associates, and Oehme Van Sweden, KAI helped develop concepts for reimagining the study area surrounding the Eastern Market Metro station, and analyzed the impacts of the concepts on pedestrians, bicyclists, transit users, drivers, residents, and storeowners. KAI coordinated with the District Department of Transportation (DDOT) and the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA) to conduct the study and develop the design concepts.
