Golden Glades Interchange System Assessment

KAI undertook the planning effort to analyze and assess the Golden Glades Interchange area located in northern Miami-Dade County for the Florida Department of Transportation. The Golden Glades Interchange is the confluence of five major roads, serving eastern and southern Florida:

  • Florida’s Turnpike
  • Interstate 95/SR 9A
  • SR 9
  • US 44a/ SR 7
  • Palmetto Expressway / SR 826 / NW 167th Street.

The project was initiated as part of a public-private partnership redevelopment effort of the Golden Glades Multimodal Transportation Facility, located in the southwest corner of the interchange. This redevelopment project focused on transit-oriented design principles and the preservation of the existing park-and-ride lot.

The purpose of the KAI system assessment was to examine alternative design modifications for the Golden Glades Interchange area that address congestion, and that will directly or indirectly improve mobility and accessibility to the redevelopment property. The KAI analysis included existing and future year traffic operational analyses, a safety assessment, and alternate design considerations with the intent to move forward to a Project Development and Environmental (PD&E) Study.
