JTA ITS Signal Priority Program Study
KAI recently completed a bus signal priority test project along Atlantic Blvd in Jacksonville at six intersections between St Johns Bluff Road and San Pablo Blvd. This project involved reviewing alternate TSP strategies and technologies and conducting a “before” and “after” evaluation of the impacts of TSP on bus travel times, schedule adherence, auto travel times, intersection delay, agency operating costs, crashes, and air quality and fuel consumption. An interface between the bus detection system and bus’ Automatic Vehicle Location (AVL) system was developed to test “conditional priority” at the six intersections. This project also identified an implementation strategy to expand TSP application to other portions of the Jacksonville region. A Project Task Force comprising of JTA, City of Jacksonville, FDOT District 2, and First Coast MPO staff provided guidance and review during the project.
