NCHRP Project 03-75: Analysis of Freeway Weaving Sections

KAI collaborated with Polytechnic University in Brooklyn to develop a new Highway Capacity Manual methodology to evaluate the operation and design of freeway weaving sections. The new method is based on detailed field data collected at thirteen sites throughout the country. Individual vehicles were tracked as they travel through each weaving section using an aerial data collection system. The field data collection effort was supplemented by data produced using microscopic simulation, allowing the research to address a broader range of geometric and traffic conditions. KAI provided assistance throughout the project with site selection, data collection and reduction, and development of the methodology and chapter.
