North-South Streetcar Study

KAI is currently leading the auto, pedestrian, and bicycle evaluation for the North-South Streetcar Study in Washington, DC. KAI’s responsibilities include a wide range of multimodal traffic engineering tasks, including:

  • A detailed site inventory and data collection on nearly 40 miles of city streets
  • A volume, speed, and vehicle classification evaluation
  • A volume development using MWCOG’s travel demand model
  • Intersection operations analysis and simulation on approximately 125 signalized intersections for up to three alternatives and nine scenarios (Existing, Opening Year, and 2040)
  • VISSIM modeling at up to 20 intersections
  • A bus service impact analysis
  • A multimodal safety evaluation
  • A bicycle and pedestrian impact evaluation
  • Participation in three public meetings
