Rosslyn Metro Sector Plan

KAI is leading the transportation element of the Realize Rosslyn Metro Sector Plan in Arlington, Virginia. Realize Rosslyn is a new effort to promote public participation in a community planning process aimed at realizing the transformation of Rosslyn from a 1960’s auto-centric area into a vibrant and distinctive urban place featuring great housing, retail and office space. The intense, one-year planning effort is the most comprehensive look at planning in Rosslyn since the 1992 Rosslyn Station Area Plan Addendum. The results of this effort will provide a refined community vision, planning and implementation framework to help Rosslyn reach its full potential, while ensuring the voices across Arlington are part of this conversation. KAI is tasked with refining the area’s multimodal transportation system consistent with the County’s current Master Transportation Plan to enhance accessibility of Rosslyn’s future residents, workers, and visitors. Together with the multidisciplinary team – led by Goody Clancy – KAI is establishing a framework for improving public transportation, pedestrian, and bicycle access. Recommendations for improving walkability include road diets and traffic circulation changes to widen sidewalks and create more space for people to enjoy Rosslyn. Transportation demand management and parking management are critical tools for reducing automobile impacts to Rosslyn’s livability and community.
