Springfield Downtown Circulation Study
KAI provided a review of the potential conversion of Main Street and South A Street from one-way to two-way streets, within Springfield's downtown area. Following stakeholder interviews, KAI prepared conceptual design alternatives to address pedestrian, bicycle, transit, parking, freight, and auto needs. Key to this study was the need to address potential trade-offs between economic development objectives, modal needs, and intermodal connections.
As part of this work, KAI identified a three-phased implementation plan with cost-effective projects that could support a one-way or two-way configuration and could demonstrate progress toward achieving the vision for the downtown.
This project was a collaboration of city staff, stakeholder input, and technical analyses provided by KAI. The project was under-budget and on-time and was reviewed by City Council in June 2012.
