University Avenue/IA 934 Environmental Assessment
KAI, as a subconsultant to HNTB Corporation, and working for the Iowa DOT, is currently preparing the traffic analysis element of the environmental documentation for a 5-mile long corridor project in Waterloo and Cedar Falls, Iowa. This project involves a multimodal effort, looking at a reduction in the existing signalized corridor, from six to four lanes with complete streets elements. KAI has been involved with development of the three alternatives:
- 6-lane with traffic signals optimized
- 4-lanes with traffic signals optimized
- 4-lanes with roundabouts (single lane and multilane)
KAI has also developed double-line sketches of over 20 roundabout alternatives; conducted a peer review of the Highway Safety Manual concepts in the alternatives analysis; and performed a traffic operations analysis of over 25 intersections, during the future weekday AM and PM peak hours.
KAI is currently developing VISSIM models and visualization videos of the signalized and roundabout alternatives, in support of the public involvement and stakeholder efforts.
