US 101 Freeway Corridor System Management Plan

KAI led the technical analysis to support Caltrans' development of a corridor system management plan (CSMP) for the 26-mile US 101 freeway within San Mateo County. This effort involved two sequential days of simultaneous ramp count, mainline count, mainline travel time and speed performance data collection for the peak periods. This data collection effort was integrated with simultaneous aerial photography to identify queue formation and dissipation times and locations covering 138 on and off-ramps, at 30 interchanges, and 30 center-line miles of freeway mainline operations. KAI worked with MTC, Caltrans, and corridor stakeholders (represented by C/CAG) to identify a set of short- and long-term capacity and ITS improvements for the US 101 freeway corridor.
