Transit
Kittelson & Associates, Inc. applies traffic engineering techniques and technology for the benefit of public transit, and leads applied research projects to improve the state-of-the-art in the areas of transit operations and performance measurement. Our work on nine bus rapid transit projects in four U.S. and two Canadian cities has included identifying feasible transit preferential treatments, simulating bus operations, forecasting ridership, planning service, estimating operating costs, and developing functional designs of bus roadway facilities. KAI has also worked on more specialized transit projects, including planning for modern streetcar lines, and aerial trams and gondolas.
Our research work includes developing two editions of TRB's Transit Capacity and Quality of Service Manual, FTA's Transit Signal Priority Research: An Implementation Guidebook, TRB's Bus Rapid Transit Practitioner's Guide, and TRB's Guidebook for Developing a Transit Performance-Measurement System.
