The Sacramento chapter of the American Public Works Association (APWA) awarded the team led by Kittelson & Associates, Inc. its 2017 Project of the Year Award in the Transportation Category for the Elk Grove Sheldon/Waterman Intersection Improvements Project. The award was given at APWA’s annual awards ceremony on August 4, 2017, in Sacramento.

Quincy Engineering was the team’s civil design engineer. Kittelson staff included Erin Ferguson, PE (project manager), and Brian Ray, PE (senior technical advisor). The project is one of three intersection improvement projects Kittelson has planned for the City of Elk Grove, California, as part of a contract to provide roundabout evaluation and planning services that address the city’s Rural Road Improvement Policy.

The roundabout design for Sheldon and Waterman includes earth-toned pedestrian walkways to match the rural character of the area. The project was completed in the summer of 2017.
