Senior Engineer

Joel Amarillas

Joel has worked on a wide range of projects that include final design (3D modeling), functional intersection concept design, bicycle and pedestrian facilities design, arterial and freeway microsimulation networks, and transportation impact studies – all of which have furthered his practical knowledge of software such as AutoCAD Civil 3D, VISSIM, Synchro, VISTRO, CORSIM, and ArcGIS. Joel has a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from the University of Arizona, where he served as a teaching and research assistant for the Smart Transportation Lab. His research focused on the evaluation of crash data, the performance of safety analysis procedures, and the use of GIS to determine intersection hot spots. When not working, Joel participates in professional organizations such as ASCE and ITE (currently serving as a board officer in his local chapter for both organizations). He can also be found playing or watching football (soccer) and tennis, and enjoying Arizona’s many wonderful scenic offerings.
