Xiaobo Ma

Transportation Analyst

Xiaobo started his internship with the Tucson team in Aug 2022. He is currently a Ph.D. Candidate in the Department of Civil & Architectural Engineering & Mechanics at the University of Arizona. Xiaobo is experienced in traffic operations, intelligent transportation systems, machine learning/causal Inference, big traffic data mining and analysis, and spatial-temporal data forecasting. He has been involved in several research projects, including solid practical and theoretical research in developing local, regional, and national solutions to solve traffic mobility and safety issues on arterials and freeways. The SR-51 adaptive ramp metering evaluation project he worked on for ADOT was selected as the runner-up of the 2019 best TSMO project by the National Operations Center of Excellence. He is a member of the Artificial Intelligence in Transportation Committee of the ASCE Transportation & Development Institute (T&DI). He is also a committee member of the Paper Review Subcommittee and Communications Subcommittee of the TRB Standing Committee on Artificial Intelligence and Advanced Computing Applications (AED50). In addition, his research papers have been awarded the ITS Arizona 28th Annual Conference Best Paper Award, American Statistical Association TSIG Student Paper Award (Honorable Mention), and the Annual Outstanding Paper Award of the China Institute of Navigation. Outside of school, he enjoys camping, traveling, and swimming.
