Challenge

The planned Artists for Humanity EpiCenter addition will add approximately 57,000 square feet of new studios, partner studios, and event and retail space to the center’s existing site in South Boston. The addition spans the site’s only open space for full site coverage, requiring the construction work zone to be outside of the building footprint and within the public way. Prior to construction, the project’s general contractor retained Kittelson to prepare a construction management plan (CMP) to limit construction impacts to pedestrians and traffic.

Solution

Using AutoCAD and AutoTURN software, Kittelson tested several site logistic plans. Considerations included temporary street closures, conversion of streets to one-way operations, and temporary relocation of traffic signal equipment. Solutions to minimize impacts were achieved through an iterative process with the construction manager.
