Joel Amarillas joined Kittelson’s Tucson, Arizona, office with a passion for transportation and a desire to give back to the profession in meaningful ways. True to his word, Joel became actively involved in not one, but two transportation-focused professional organizations – the Southern Arizona Institute of Transportation Engineers (SAITE) and the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) Southern Arizona.

As a result of his longstanding involvement with ASCE, Joel was appointed vice president for the ASCE Southern Arizona Branch Younger Member Forum for 2017-18. In this role, Joel organizes the general membership meetings, socials, and other events. He also coordinates the PE exam review course and serves as course chairperson. He attends conferences, helps students prepare for their annual conference, and schedules resume workshops for young, aspiring professionals.

Taking his commitment one step further, Joel was also appointed ITE secretary/treasurer for his local chapter for 2017-18. In this capacity, Joel coordinates meetings, reserves event venues, and ensures that food is available for participants. He is also responsible for making payments, collecting member fees at monthly meetings, and taking notes at the monthly meetings.

Congratulations to Joel on being appointed to these two posts! Kittelson is proud of Joel’s continued, outward-focused efforts to give back to others individually and to the profession as a whole.
