James has a broad range of expertise in the areas of arterial traffic operations, highway safety, and highway geometric design. His expertise extends to the areas of signal operation, signal timing, traffic detection, observational before-after studies, safety prediction, horizontal curve signing, and interchange design. He has been involved in several studies using field data and simulation to develop engineering guidelines for improving highway operation, safety, and design. During his career, he has been a member of several technical committees for the Institute of Transportation Engineers and the Transportation Research Board.
