Challenge
The City of Eugene identified a need to modernize the signal at Willamette Street and W 18th Avenue to meet current accessibility expectations. The existing equipment no longer aligned with City standards or with PROWAG requirements, and the corridor was undergoing a conversion from one-way to two-way travel. With a project that carried significant visibility and coordination needs, the City sought support that could fit into an ongoing effort and keep construction moving without delay.
Solution
Kittelson prepared the final PS&E documents for the signal modifications and replaced the existing signal with new equipment that met both City of Eugene and PROWAG standards. To help the City maintain its schedule, the team assisted staff with preordering poles and controller equipment. The team also prepared interconnected design plans for the new signal. By stepping into a key role during this phase of work, our team provided support that matched the City’s needs and kept the broader street conversion effort moving.
The Outcome
Signal Design that Keeps a Community Moving
The updated signal design and timely equipment procurement positioned the City to advance construction with fewer interruptions. This high-profile project now supports the community’s goals by providing more reliable travel every day.
