With deep sadness, we share the news that the transportation community recently lost a member. All of us at Kittelson are feeling this loss very deeply, as he was also a member of the Kittelson family.

Kevin Yost was a transportation analyst in our Sacramento office with a contagiously positive spirit. He was always eager to learn, and was incredibly passionate about improving systems for people biking and walking. He was born and raised in Fresno, CA, and was thrilled to have the chance to address transportation challenges in his hometown through the work he did.

Kevin held dual masters degrees in City Planning and Engineering from Cal Poly San Luis Obispo. He was an avid cyclist and a passionate active transportation advocate. Outside of work, he loved traveling and hiking, playing sports, and trying new foods. He loved to keep up with the local news and projects, sharing with the office and always attending the latest workshop or project event.

Our hearts ache with Kevin’s wife, his family, and all those who had the opportunity to get to know Kevin in his short time with us. We know there is no easy way to share this, and even as we’re grieving together, we know that supporting one of Kevin’s biggest passions is one small thing we can do to support his family and his memory. In lieu of flowers, Kevin’s family is asking for charitable donations to WALKSacramento and/or Sacramento Area Bicycle Advocates. These organizations work to promote sustainable transportation in the Sacramento region through planning, advocacy, and community empowerment, and Kevin actively collaborated with both of them. If you would like to contribute in honor of Kevin, please do so here.

A celebration of life will be held on Sunday, September 22 in Sacramento. For those of you who knew Kevin and want to attend, please find details and RSVP here.

Thank you to each of you who has extended support to Kevin’s family and friends, and to the larger Kittelson family during this time.
