Bastian Schroeder, PhD
Senior Principal Engineer
Bastian is a Principal Engineer in Kittelson’s Wilmington office. As a recognized leader in the transportation industry, he helps guide transportation emerging trends and technologies. His areas of expertise and broad multidisciplinary interests include traffic operations on surface streets and freeways, simulation analysis, FREEVAL, traffic forecasting, specialized field data collection, pedestrian accessibility issues, and pedestrian-bicycle operations. Bastian has a passion for developing solutions to complex problems across all areas of transportation with a focus on advancing agency processes and integrating research into standard practices. Bastian has led or co-led over 75 state and federal projects and has (co-)authored nearly 100 journal papers and conference proceedings. Seven of his papers have been recognized with Best Paper Awards, including the 2010 D. Grant Mickle Award by the Transportation Research Board (TRB). He is active in the Institute of Transportation Engineers (ITE) and TRB and is a member of TRB Committees on Highway Capacity and Quality of Service as well as the TRB Simulation Committee. Outside of his professional career, Bastian is an avid runner, cyclist, and triathlete who enjoys spending as much time as possible outdoors, particularly camping where no cell signal has gone before.
